1) Clinical Psychologist

Project: MSF Europe Migrations

Location: Athens – Daily Care Centre  

Part time position: 3 days/week

Starting Date: Immediately

Duration: 3 months (possibility of extension)

Context

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international independent medical and humanitarian action-driven organization that offers assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters and to victims of armed conflict, without discrimination and irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation. The MSF movement is built around 5 operational centres (OC) supported by 23 sections and offices worldwide. MSF in Greece provides humanitarian and medical assistance to the refugee and migrant populations fleeing conflict in their home countries.

Main Purpose 

Provides psychological support to patients according to MSF principles and protocols in order to improve patients’ mental health.

Accountabilities

  • Carry out evaluation of psychological and mental health needs of patients, elaborate a diagnosis and establish a plan of treatment

  • Diagnose any psychological or psychiatric disorder and if necessary, refer the patient to the medical team in order to receive drug treatment.

  • Implement the Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) protocol, identify possible victims of SGBV and refer them to the medical team so that they receive the necessary treatment.

  •  Inform the patient and his/her relatives about the possible consequences of the illness and drug treatment to follow in order to improve the patient's condition.

  • Provide psychological support and psychotherapy sessions (individual, family, group) to patients according to MSF protocols to improve their mental health conditions

  • Refer patients to other health professionals whenever necessary in order to provide the most appropriate treatment

  • Assist and train staff members and resourceful people whenever necessary in order to enhance the scope of MH activities

  • Collect statistical and monitoring data about mental health activities

  • Work in close collaboration with translators in order to ensure that appropriate terminology and behavior are used during sessions.

  • Inform the supervisor and the medical team about any issues or problems that may arise related to patients’ treatment in order to provide the best possible solution from a medical perspective

  • Ensure that all patient information is kept confidential

Requirements

  • Education: Essential degree or diploma in Clinical Psychology.

  • License to practice in Greece.

  • Languages: Greek and English essential, Desirable Arabic/Farsi/Dari.

  • Experience: 2 years’ experience minimum as a Psychologist. Desirable previous experience with MSF or other NGO’s in developing countries.

  • Knowledge: Computer literacy essential, Word and Excel l.

  • Teamwork, cross cultural awareness and sensitivity, behavioral flexibility.

2) Social Worker Supervisor

Main Responsibilities of the Position

The Day Care Centre is providing a patient centered approach in which all departments focus on the well-being of the patient. The social worker team is part of this approach ensuring that patient is assisted accordingly in order to recover or be autonomous with his disease.

Defining, coordinating and monitoring all Social Team related activities in the project according to MSF policies, protocols and standards in order to provide a comprehensive package of Social Services (in and out of Day Care Center) and ensure a smooth patient circuit throughout the Day Care Centre (from triage to the exit).

Accountabilities

  • Participate in the planning, organization and coordination of social worker’s activities, in close collaboration with the PMR and other medical team members, in order to ensure an efficient and effective implementation of the resources needed while maintaining high levels of quality in SW programs and activities.

  • Coordinate activities of SW services with other relevant actors and liaises with the local counterparts, including referral services. Maintain a proper network for information sharing and social department needs to be covered

  • Supervise the daily SW and reception activities and patient support according to MSF protocols and standards in order to provide the most appropriate support for patients with specific social needs

  • Liaise with the other MSF team members and especially supervisors of the project for the efficiency of the project.

  • Supervise, in close coordination with the HR department, the associated processes (recruitment, training/induction, evaluation, potential detection, development and communication) of the staff under his/her responsibility in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required

  • Organise the SW and reception team according to the needs of the DCC: planning, replacement etc.

  • When needed, give social support to patients according to MSF guidelines when available to improve social conditions of patients and enhance their functionality.

  • Compile the data and statistic linked with SW and reception activities and report to the PMR

  • Offer appropriate supervision to social workers:

  • Ensure Proper Reception, Assessment of needs and Centralized Registration for all Visitors in DCC

  • Ensure Smooth Patient Circuit inside Day Care Centre

  • Provide Social Services-Support to beneficiaries according to admission criteria

  • Engage in Outreach Activities when relevant

  • Ensure proper referral system through the social services

  • Ensure the patient’s related information is kept confidential

  • Compile all data collected by the SW department (triage, reception and SW), participate to the elaboration of the new data collection tool

  • Analysing routine data for monitoring purposes, and being responsible for the collection and analysis of social statistics and reporting of Social Team activities (participation in thematic reports and monthly reports according to guidelines) in order to have updated and correct information about the day-to-day activity in the project and to provide support in the decision-making

  • In close collaboration with TMS team aims to support beneficiaries all along their route in Europe. Ensure access to specialized services, protection and adequate shelters in Greece and in the country of their final destination.

  • Share information with PMR and FC regarding possible advocacy messages

  • Participate to SW meetings with others MSF OCs for sharing best practice and other relevant information

  • Participate in discussions, trainings, briefings, etc. about social needs and humanitarian issues

  • Participating to the production of a global patient centered data tool including the Social services

  • Data analysis of the impact of social services to our target population

  • Propose to the PMR standard tools for SW such as registration, Admission Criteria for Social Service Management, Referrals System and Outreach Guidelines; update them regularly and share them with the DCC team

Requirements

  • Education: Social Worker Degree or related field essential. Social Worker Permission of Working

  • Social Worker Experience in particular with refugees and migrant population in Greece. Having worked in MSF Operations in Europe over the last 2 years is an Asset.

  • Languages: Mission working language (English) and local language (Greek) essential

  • Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)
